KEY ISSUES. e-Bamberg experience

BRIEF. Bamberg East has been cut by the railway to the city centre for many years. It results a lack of identity despite strong local roots like a green corridor, an educational background and some historic businesses. With the release of Lagarde Caserne in 2012, the area is ready for changes.

E-Bamberg concept is a new perception of the eastern suburb. Our strategic approach is to reconnect the area to the city centre by improving links through the railway, achieving the green network and creating several routes through all project sites.

The Linear Park offers a new frontage to the railway with an upper promenade which makes a noise barrier. Several thematic gardens are spread out along the home zone Brennerstraße from the existing brewery to a local hub with new uses.

The Sharing Neighbourhood is organised in two parts with a civic gateway and a residential area. A confortable path goes through the site and gets cafe, playground, observatory tower as well as gardens and allotments.

The Residential Community is organised with shared spaces and winter gardens to aim a high level of eco-quality and intergenerational programme. A close multi-storey car park allows sharing concept between workers and residents.

The Experimenting Neighbourhood is related to the Lagarde Casern which hosts artist workshops and other music studios. Offices with building landmark are located at the corner of Berliner Ring whereas Zollnerstraße street section is refined to reduce speed.
